- 2005 July 8th, Hurricane Dennis hits while moving northwest passing just south with 130 mph winds.President Fidel Castro said 10 people, including an 18-day-old baby and 95-year-old man, were killed in the provinces of Granma and Santiago after Dennis raked Cuba's south coast on Thursday. Cuban officials said about 6,000 homes had been damaged or destroyed by the storm in the province of Granma where 24-foot storm surges were reported.
